Customer challenges
- Expro’s client had the requirement for a subsea well access system to provide well barriers during a subsea well abandonment campaign in West Africa
- This abandonment campaign was to be carried out by a drill ship with a dual activity drill floor
- Expro supported our client with the provision of an Open Water Intervention Riser System (OWIRS) and controls package (SPS Xmas Tree and OWIRS controls)
- Expro provided project management, interface engineering and service personnel to deliver the full scope, which included a compact OWIRS, surface flowhead, umbilical’s, topsides control equipment and IWOCs package under the one integrated contract
- Our customer required a rental OWIRS as their subsea well access method to interface with the Xmas Tree because:
- Xmas Tree type and upper interface could not accommodate a drilling BOP
- The original workover system was no longer available
- Coil tubing intervention as a contingency was ruled out of RWIS
Expro Excellence
- OWIRS system was successfully bunny hopped for six wells in the schedule: system subsea for just over three weeks
- Personnel skill sets were transferred from Expro’s SSTTA product line
- Zero leak gas testing was carried out on the main barriers post operation, proving the system reliability after more than 250 functions and 16 months in the field
- Performance recognised by client in Australia who will now take equipment on rental to perform very similar work scope
