Customer challenges
- Expro’s client had the requirement for a subsea well access system to provide well barriers during a subsea well abandonment campaign in Australia
- This abandonment campaign was to be carried out by a MODU already contracted to client
- Expro supported our client with the provision of Intervention Riser System (IRS), controls package (SPS Xmas tree and IRS controls) to support our client by providing a complete integrated Intervention Riser and controls package
- Expro provided project management, interface engineering and service personnel to deliver the full scope, which included a compact IRS, surface flow-head, umbilical’s, topsides control equipment and IWOCs package under the one integrated project
- Our customer required a rental Intervention Riser System (IRS) as their subsea well access method to interface with the XT because:
- XT type and upper interface could not accommodate a drilling BOP
- The original field development workover system was no longer available
- Coil tubing intervention as a contingency was ruled out of RWIS
Expro Excellence
- Expro's facility in Perth, Australia was upgraded with a custom built area specifically for stacking and maintaining Intervention Riser System (IRS)
- IRS system was successfully bunny hopped for 7 wells in the schedule: system remained subsea for 44 days with no operational issues
- Continued to provide first class support through difficult circumstances due to COVID-19 restrictions
Value to client
- Expro implemented operational and safety learnings from a recent campaign which utilized the same Xmas tree design
- Subsea well access phase on all 18 wells completed in 116 days
- Significant time/cost savings to client with campaign being completed in excess of 20 days under budget
- IWOCS for Xmas Tree controls interfaced and provided under the same contract, negating the requirement for additional interfacing and 3rd party personnel
