Customer challenges
- Expro’s analytical data services (ADS) team was invited by Chevron Energy Technology Centre to participate in their 2014 performance evaluation for oilfield water laboratories – the aim of the study was to assess the performance and quality of data produced by laboratories that analyse oilfield waters for Chevron’s global upstream operations
- 34 laboratories (14 internal to Chevron, and 20 third-parties) took part from across the globe including: Angola, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, UK and USA
- Participants were provided with six blind water standards for the determination of ionic composition (54 possible analyses) – in order to accommodate the various types and oilfield waters typically analysed the test materials included three low salinity waters (TDS < 10,000 mg/L) and three high salinity waters (TDS > 100,000 mg/L)
- Laboratories were required to report their samples within two weeks
Expro Excellence
- Expro’s ADS team tested all the samples provided using standard, in-house test methods in the same manner as routine client samples (i.e. using standardised procedures) and completed all 54 analyses
- All analyses were carried out at the Expro ADS laboratory in Chandlers Ford, UK
- 52 of the analyses were carried out using ISO 17025 accredited test methods
- Expro were ranked joint 1st with a performance rating of 98.1% (based on completed analyses and data reported)
Value to client
- Chevron’s study verifies the expertise in water chemistry and the ability of the ADS laboratory to generate consistently accurate and technically valid results for oilfield waters
