International Women in Engineering Day 2024 - Stephanie Skiles

25th June 2024

Name: Stephanie Skiles
Location: Houston
Job Title: Applications Engineer

Tell us about your early career background?
After studying Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, I have 15+ years of experience in the oil & gas industry and hold my professional engineering license in Petroleum Engineering. I worked 12 years at Weatherford, primarily in the solid expandables product line before joining Coretrax 4 years ago.

What does your job involve?
My job involves providing technical support to both sales and operations throughout the planning and execution of installing expandable liners.

Tell us about your career so far with Coretrax?
I have been with Coretrax for 4 years, starting on the R&D team as CORE Engineering Project Manager, and recently transitioning to CORE Applications Engineer.

What's the best piece of advice you would give?
My best piece of advice for women in engineering is to make an effort to always recognize and celebrate your accomplishments. You and you alone have gotten yourself to where you are today, not because of, but in spite of gender biases in the workforce. Taking the path less traveled is not always easy, but it is a reflection of your strength and perseverance. Don't let anyone diminish what you have done because of your gender or the way you look.

What would you say to someone considering a career in engineering?
I often have young people asking for advice about pursuing engineering and my advice is always the same. You have to be prepared to do the work. Engineering is not an easy degree path in university. You will have to be prepared to prioritize school over fun and put in more work than some of your peers to get through the program. However, if you have a passion for math, science, and being challenged, a career in Engineering is ever-rewarding and provides good financial stability for you and your future family.

What do you do outside of work?
Besides spending time with family, I love to spend my time outdoors hiking, fishing, and camping. When you work a stressful job, spending time in nature is very grounding.
