Drilling the final few stands at well total depth (TD) can be the most challenging and risk laden moments of a well construction project and is commonly done solely to accommodate a shoetrack for a cemented liner.
SeaCureRS is a unique reservoir section system, eliminating the need to drill the shoetrack sump at well total depth (TD), or saving a dedicated trip to clean out the shoetrack, whilst enabling for post cementing full-bore displacement without a further full round trip.
Deepening the wellbore to accommodate the shoetrack is not always a possibility, due to underlying risks, mandating a post-cementing clean out trip of the shoetrack. In some scenarios, installation of a pressure tested mechanical barrier in the cemented liner is a requirement on a dedicated trip in hole prior to reservoir access. Following most reservoir liner cement jobs, an additional round trip can be expected to commence a wellbore clean-up or displacement.
Building on field-proven technology, SeaCureRS is the next generation of Expro’s revolutionary SeaCure® cementing system, utilising stabbed-in, inner string cementing to optimise or eliminate the need for shoe tracks, providing ultimate cement placement and improving operational efficiency for reservoir liners.
SeaCureRS incorporates a telescopic slip-joint, provided with 4.8” diameter to enable use within 7” liners, including a bespoke internal clutch mechanism for transmitting through-torque when in tension. The systems can be used with additional tools, including scrapers and other wellbore clean-up tools and can be utilised with inner string centralisation.
At the rig floor, a casing or liner is run with a CureCatcher® shoe. The shoe consists of dual floats, liner setting ball catcher, wiper plug receiver and drill pipe stab-in receiver.
The liner is run until the inner string is ready to install, starting with the SeaCureRS assembly complete with slip-joint tool, weight set sub and stab-in adaptor with selectable circulating ports.
With the liner hanger assembly made up to the string, the stab-in adaptor is engaged into the receiver. The SeaCureRS slip-joint tool strokes partially closed into the swivel position, enabling for safe make up and subsequent rotation of the liner.
The string is run in hole to setting depth where the liner hanger can now be set when required, capturing the setting ball within the CureCatcher® shoe.
The cement job can now take place through the inner string, maintaining a clean liner ID free of cement to facilitate optimal cement bond logging and reservoir access. At the end of the cement job, a mechanical wiper plug is launched and displaced with cement slurry. Once locked into the receiver the wiper plug provides a bi-directional seal.
With the liner packer set, any excess slurry behind the wiper plug can be safely circulated out of the inner string, prior to full bore forward or reverse circulation.
