Expro’s integrated well construction solution delivers cost reduction and increased efficiency in cavern storage wells

• A company looking to drill a chemical storage well approached Expro’s Well Construction teams to design a custom solution for a troublesome formation for some of their wells in Louisiana
• Looking to run their 30” & 26” strings as a pair of liners instead of a single surface string to reduce open hole risk exposure, a custom liner system was needed as well as a method to attain efficient and effective cemented isolation in very technically challenging formations which include swelling shale, gumbo and a very sensitive caprock structure
• Due to the weight of the strings and the application, an off-the-shelf solution was not available, so Expro designed and deployed a custom liner system in conjunction with its large OD Tubulars, Tubular Running Services (TRS), and Cure Technologies divisions to deliver real-world solutions in only a few months

• Cure Technologies - Expro’s suite of Cure Technologies allowed the operator to complete a pre-installation casing pressure test and specialized deployment tooling at the rig floor, followed by precise cement placement after reaching TD while maintaining full circulation capability in the difficult formation without using a Subsurface Release (SSR) plug system
• TRS - after installing the 42” conductor string via Expro’s fleet of hydraulic hammers, the 36” string was set in a standard drill & cement manner, the 30” and 26” liner strings were installed with a casing spear with custom-designed swab cups from Expro’s FC-1 line of casing circulation tools. The strings were able to be handled and reciprocated through tough hole conditions while allowing for casing pressure test without multiple trips
• Tubular Products & Services & Engineering - the custom liner hanger system was designed and manufactured in conjunction with the supply of Expro’s large OD tubulars and thread-direct DDS connectors to deliver a one-stop sourcing solution to meet the tight time constraints of the operator

• The operator was able to pressure test the casing in compliance with all regulations in a single trip application, which reduced open hole time and risk to operations
• Casing was run with full circulation capabilities, set at TD, and primary cement job successfully placed with no u-tubing of cement back into the string, delivering full zonal isolation for subsequent drilling operations
• Liner hanger and tubular solution delivered by Expro allowed the operator to reduce the overall weight and length of their well section, lowering their operating cost while still achieving targeted deliverables
