Expro Excellence
Well Intervention and Integrity
Hydraulic Intervention develops bespoke pumping package to tackle scale inhibition program
Customer challenges
  • As one of the longest producing fields in the UKCS, the formation of scale is a continuous challenge that the operator is required to manage
  • Two types of scale that are present within the field are calcium carbonate and barium sulphate
  • Conventional methods such as milling techniques or chemical dissolvers are often only considered once production loss has been experienced
  • A scale inhibition program was implemented to proactively prevent the formation of scale and would require routine hydraulic intervention of the wells
  • Ageing assets provide challenges with POB, weight limitations, deck space and therefore an integrated approach would be required
  • Electrification of pumping spread was key to its location within the platform zoning restrictions
Expro Excellence
  • Expro delivered a multi-disciplined crew structure combining both Mechanical and Hydraulic Intervention Specialists as part of the core crew to deliver across all assets in the field
  • A bespoke pumping system was designed to meet the customer requirements
  • The system consisted of a small footprint, lightweight design that could be integrated into the zoned areas within the centre of the platform adjacent to the wells themselves
  • Pumps were electric driven using existing platform power contributing to a lower carbon footprint than conventional diesel driven units
  • Expro’s Hydraulic Intervention services were extended to a second field consisting of two producing assets that the customers owned and operated
Value to client
  • Continuous production is maintained through careful planning and execution with 100% uptime across all Hydraulic Interventions conducted to date
  • Specifications of the pumping system is such that a planned change in chemical design could easily be accommodated ensuring intervention timings were minimized
  • A combination of multi-disciplined crew structure and blended contract management provide the customer with enhanced reactions times and more precise forward planning when combining both Mechanical and Hydraulic Intervention across their assets
