International Women's Day (IWD) allows us to celebrate the achievements of women and promote gender equality. This year's theme, "Accelerate Action," encourages us to take meaningful steps towards equality.
At Expro, we believe in fostering environments where women are not just included but are actively supported to grow within the business. This year, we have asked some of our female colleagues across the world to share their thoughts on accelerating action, their role models, valuable career advice, and more.
See what Claire had to say below.
Who is your female role model or someone you admire & why?
I am lucky to be surrounded by a strong group of women in my day-to-day life who each measure success in different ways – be that career, family values, or even just how happy they are! In particular, my friend Anuli is someone I hugely admire – we met during the trenches of early motherhood, and it has been incredible to watch her flourish in both her career whilst also seamlessly parenting. Anuli’s confidence in her own ability is truly inspiring.
What advice would you give to your younger self at the start of your career?
Echoing what I have just said above, I wish I had more confidence in my early career (and even university days!) to push myself forward even in situations I felt usure of – it is only latterly that I have felt comfortable to do this. Michelle Obama puts it well “Failure is an important part of growth…don’t be afraid to fail”.
This year’s IWD theme is Accelerate Action, what does that mean to you?
Get involved! We can all play an active role in opening up the world in whatever shape or form that may be.
If you could do a day in the life of a famous female, who would it be and why?
This is a tricky one! I think perhaps someone like Jessica Ennis Hill, who has shown true commitment to a sporting activity, crafted her life around it and truly succeeded. It would be interesting to see the work involved in achieving this – rather than the snapshot you see at the Olympics.
