International Women in Engineering Day 2024 - Dora Piedrahita

24th June 2024

Name: Dora Piedrahita
Job Title: Sales Manager
Location: Bogota, Colombia

Tell us about your background?
I pursued my university studies in Colombia at America University. After graduating, I began my career with roles in oil and gas production and then as Reservoir Engineer & Optimization Engineer, which provided me with a solid foundation in reservoir, production, work over & rigless operations. These early experiences were crucial in shaping my professional path and preparing me for my current role at Expro.

Since joining Expro, I have had the opportunity to work on sales and technical challenges and I have grown both professionally and personally. The supportive environment and innovative culture at Expro have been instrumental in my development.

What advice would you give yourself at the start of your career?
My journey through the fascinating world of the oil, gas, and energy industry began in 2005 when I decided to pursue a degree in Petroleum Engineering. If I could go back in time and speak to the Dora of 2005, I would tell her to be patient. Everything has a process, requires analysis, and eventually leads to a result. It's crucial to make well-considered and impartial decisions to achieve extraordinary outcomes. Remember, take it one day at a time. Every problem, no matter how challenging, has a solution when you seek alliances and support from the right people.

What inspires you?
My biggest motivation is my family, especially my little daughter Veronica. She is 4 years old and just starting her life. She inspires me to wake up every day, go to work, and give my best , I strive to find innovate solutions that help the environment while also generating value for the company. New challenges motivate me, and I’m driven to think outside the box.

What would you say to someone considering a career in engineering?
I would say to that person: Choosing to be a petroleum engineer has changed my life in a positive way. I am very happy and proud of my profession and the skills I have developed over the years thanks to this decision. Engineering is all about solving complex problems and finding innovative solutions. If you enjoy tackling challenges and working on practical solutions, this field could be a great fit. Additionally, Engineers often work on projects that have a significant impact on society and our communities. Whether it's developing sustainable energy solutions, improving healthcare technology, or designing efficient transportation systems, your work can make a real difference creating and designing the future.

What is your favourite Expro moment so far?
One of the most memorable moments happened recently when we won our first QSHE award for our innovative solution for searching for natural hydrogen in Colombia. I love working at Expro and I feel blessed to have the support of my managers. We will continue to dream big!!
