Neil Sims, Vice President – Europe CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States):
For me, the best aspect of working in the oil and gas industry is the variety of work and the people you come across. Furthermore, the fact that it is such a global industry means there are opportunities in every continent.
When I first joined the industry, what really excited me was the opportunity to travel. I’ve held positions at Expro that have involved a lot of international trips and I was also based in the US for a number of years.
At Expro, there are a lot of like-minded people working together in a fairly informal environment which allows for discussion and sharing ideas. From my perspective, anyone new coming into the industry for the first time would consider it a big selling point to find themselves in a working environment that’s pretty open and inclusive – and that’s what I like. It’s the reason I came back to the industry after nine years in the music industry.
I’m also inspired by the ethos of the company and ‘how we go about things’ – the idea that everyone is connected to the end product and our clients’ experience. I know it sounds a bit corny but you spend so much of your life working, why not work somewhere that you feel you can make a real difference?
The old phrase that you should be the author of your own life rings true to me. I thrive on working in an industry where I feel empowered to make a difference and support my colleagues to reach their goals. That’s what gets me up for work every day.
