Challenge
In December 2021, an American energy company faced a critical challenge at one of their well sites in North Dakota. The operator needed to isolate a casing leak to successfully proceed with the well's fracturing operation. The challenge was further complicated by wellbore difficulties, which required a coil-based solution for deployment. To ensure the safety and efficiency of the operation, the operator needed a reliable tool that could be deployed quickly and handle the high pressures involved.
Solution and Achievement
The solution to this challenge came in the form of ReLine HYD and OnePatch on Coil, which was chosen as the most appropriate tool for the job. This choice was based on several key factors. Firstly, the ReLine HYD and OnePatch on Coil could be deployed rapidly, saving crucial time for the operation. Additionally, it had lower expansion forces compared to competitors' products, which was a critical safety consideration. Lower expansion forces helped ensure the safety margins were maintained when dealing with the high pressures present in both the coil and surface lines.
The project was executed with precision and effectiveness. Two Coretrax personnel were deployed to the well site to implement the solution. While challenges were encountered during the drift run and an additional pre-set correlation plug was needed, the team worked collaboratively with the operator to prepare the well before deployment, even during the holiday season.
The outcome was a resounding success. The Coretrax solution effectively isolated the casing leak, and the well was pressure tested and subsequently fractured as designed, with no issues encountered while running long-range frac plugs.
