Precise cement placement is integral to successfully abandoning a well and Plug and Perforating provide an efficient solution for remedial annular cement operations.
By combining a reliable perforating gun system with two of Coretrax’s long established products- CX-SVE and CX-Superflow- Coretrax’s Plug and Perf system is designed to address several of the essential steps in the placing of annular cement for well abandonment.
The CX-Superflow is a robust, drillable scraper with a built-in brush and jetting features which allows the casing to be cleaned whilst the plug and perforating guns are run to depth. By cleaning the casing at that point, the need for a dedicated scraper trip is eliminated and a clean setting area is created for the plug and cement. The CX-SVE is a mechanically set cement retainer with rota on and overpull and features an internal sliding valve which facilitates communica on below the plug once it is set.
The perforating guns are then run below the CX-SVE and CX-Superflow in the string. Two sets of annulus pressure activated guns are configured with different firing pressures, easily allowing for two sets of perforations to be created in one trip.
The operational steps for this activity are as follows
Run in hole simultaneously cleaning the casing and removing micro annulus
At top perforation depth, close the BOP annular and pressure up to fire guns
Continue to run in hole
Reach retainer setting depth, reciprocate string to clean retainer setting area and set retainer
With communication below the plug, pressure up to fire second set of guns
Establish circulation, pump Coretrax slops reduction clean up pill and perform cement squeeze
Pick up to disconnect from retainer and spot cement plug
Key Benefits:
- Eliminates the requirement for a dedicated scraper trip prior to plug setting
- Remove casing burs
- Reduces the number of trips in the hole with perforating equipment, therefore reducing crew exposure to explosives
- Cement can be displaced immediately after disconnecting from the retainer, allowing cement squeeze and a balance plug to be placed in one trip
