Problem
In West Texas, the lateral section of a well was incurring significant water and H²S ingress in the lateral section at ~20,000ft / 6,100m from the Lineament formation.
Solution and Achievement
Coretrax Americas were assigned the task of isolating this perforated area whilst maintaining large ID communication with the well deeper below.
The cost of treatment and disposal of the water and H²S, severely threatened the economics of the well and a quick turnaround was needed to keep the economics viable.
The client analysed their seismic logged data and discovered most of the water and H²S was produced from one of the perforation zones, whilst another problem zone was located midway through the lateral. The 494ft patch was set and expanded from 16,330ft which stopped the ingress.
Cement plugs have a low probability of success and rarely provides good isolation. As a result, Coretrax recommended that the client use the ReLine HYD liner to patch the problem zone in the lateral section whilst at the same time reliably isolating the bottom of the wellbore. The ReLine HYD casing shoe gave the client the flexibility to plug off the bottom of the well and isolate the problem zones at the same time.
