Problem
A Permian Basin operator encountered water and H²S ingress that had to be resolved, as quickly as possible. The operator confirmed the actual depths of the leaking areas via logging tools, then Coretrax took over to resolve the problem.
Solution and Achievement
A combined Well Bore Clean Out / drift run was done prior to running the expandable patch to ensure there was no debris that could have hampered the running and setting of the patch. A 3,140ft Re-Line MNS 4.25” x 5.5” system was deployed, and run down into the horizontal section, the patch was then positioned at 18,201ft then expanded bottom up. Once expanded, the patch was successfully pressure tested and the water and H²S leakage into the well was found to have completely stopped.
The MNS (Mechanical No Shoe) is a Shoeless expandable patch design with additional safety factors built into the running tool system
The operator was so happy with the results, they requested that Coretrax patch another well with similar issues. This time a 2,643ft patch set at 17,530ft. Again in a deep horizontal, which was then executed with the same success as the first.
