Problem
A client, operating in Pennsylvania, faced substantial losses of oil-based mud during the open hole interval in the Brallier formation. The challenges were particularly pronounced at an approximate depth of 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet.
Solution And Achievement
To successfully isolate the open hole section, an 8 5/8” 0.417” x 10 3/4” 51# Reline DL was deployed and cladded only into the open hole, allowing the operator to avoid running unnecessary additional footage, saving time and budget. The liner was anchored in a 9 7/8” open hole with cement, allowing the client to run 8 3/4” bits and larger drilling tools through the interval to TD.
By successfully installing the liner and isolating the interval from 4,000’ to 5,000’, Coretrax eliminated any additional losses while enabling maximum inside diameter for a primary drill ahead BHA. The success of the project solidified Coretrax as a leader of open hole clad technology and subsequent installs have been completed as part of a scheduled drilling program.
The ReLine DL system is a bottom-up expansion design which allows for the operator to cement through the expandable if desired and then uses hydraulic pressure to drive the expansion cone from the bottom of the liner to the top.
